Hollowbody top carve :: Chubbuck Mousa 003

Above is my "carving shower" were I can better contain the mess of roughing out Mousa 003's hollowbody plates with an angle grinder fitted with a chainsaw wheel.  Below is the grinder setup along with where I stopped using the grinder before switching over to hand planes.

From here on out it will be hand planes and scrapers before flipping it over to scoop out the inside.

This rough carve ended up on Friday's vlog.  Check it out below and subscribe over on the Chubbuck Guitars Youtube channel.

Laminate top crack :: 2012 Gibson Custom Shop ES-359

A really odd crack for a laminate top.  This top's outer maple veneer has split and lifted around the bridge pickup rout.  I cleaned out the dirt and fit a splint into the crack along with re-gluing the separated veneer.  It won't be a pretty repair, but it should keep the crack from spreading.

WTF? :: 1970's Gibson EB-3

This is a severely modded 1970's Gibson EB-3. Someone moved the rotary switch and plugged a couple controls, not to mention adding a middle P pickup.  This freak show has random cavities routed/filled, an active preamp installed, stock controls either plugged/rerouted/removed and a 3rd P pickup installed. The customer and I decided to remove the preamp and try to make sense of what's left.

I try to keep an open mind with these older modifications as there was not the plethora of information floating around like nowadays. But what the fuck is going on here?  Maybe it was used in some historic recording session?  Or maybe someone just had a bunch of ideas they wanted to try out.  I need to know why!  #eb3mystery

Check out the video below to find out what's under the mysterious gold foil!
