Custom bridge for an underset neck :: 1961 Guild M-65 3/4 CW [4.7 lbs]

A long time ago, someone sat on this guitar at a party and broke the neck joint.  The owner decided to repair it himself, but under-set the neck slightly.  The bridge I am replacing here is a tuneomatic that was too tall to get the strings down enough for decent action.  A new low profile rosewood bridge was fabricated to compenste for the low neck angle. I ended up inlaying a carbon fiber beam though most of the bottom of the new bridge for rigidity. The single P90 on this guy is nasty (i.e. awesome). And yes, another unfortunate casualty of the hardware store refinisher.

Excessive fret wear was causing intonation issues on this bolt-on 24 fret PRS.  Jumbo frets (aka wide) can be more prone to tuning issues because the contact point of each worn fret gets pushed back towards the bridge and causes notes to play sharp.  Leveling out these divots and recrowing the frets resets the intonation point back to the middle of the fret slot, therefor minimizing intonation issues.

This early Y2K PRS was in for a new bone nut to improve the action for both slide and fretted playing.  The original graphite nut slots had worn down and made slide playing difficult, especially down low.

Here was an interesting setup request.  This player wanted to set this 70's style Strat for slide only with no fretting.  A new bone nut was carved to both elevate the strings and flatten the string radius (meaning the strings do no follow the curvature of the fingerboard).  The saddles were also raised and the string radius flattened at the bridge end.  A maple block was fit to convert the floating bridge it to a hard tail.  To finish it off, the guitar was strung with flats.  This player is going for a Lowell George kind of setup, so we may end up installing an Alembic Stratoblaster preamp in the future.
