ESP LTD B-206SM [11.4 lbs] :: six string bass setup

ESP LTD B-206SM [11.4 lbs] :: six string bass setup with D'Addario EXL170-6 nickel wound strings.  This thing is a beast!

While working on the bass I found that the E string's tuner split post was squeezed together and broke upon removing the string.  The broken tuner still functions, but I wanted to get the bass back to the player over the holidays while sourcing a replacement in "Cosmo Black".

Late 60's Gibson Trini Lopez Standard [8.7 lbs] :: refret & bad pots

Late 60's Gibson Trini Lopez Standard [8.7 lbs] :: refret & bad pots

This guitar had the deepest fingerboard divots I have ever seen.  These divots were addressed along with receiving new frets.  The pots were dirty as well since the "control cavity" is exposed to the elements on hollow guitars.  When attempting to pull the harness to clean it I was surprised to find that the knobs were glued on!  The neck volume pot broke upon removal and the bridge volume was replaced as well due to a bad taper.

Look for a blog post with more details sometime next month.

Top crack set off by a phone

Top crack set off by a phone.

And maybe a little low humidity (?)   This custom OM is owned and built by Boston singer / songwriter / guitarist Chris LaVancher at Alan Caruth's shop in 2004.  While at a recent gig, a cell phone was accidentally dropped by someone on stage.  The guitar was on a stand when the phone impacted the top, setting off a 6" crack.

The crack was slightly open so I humidified the guitar for 24 hours and it closed enough to glue up.  Hot hide glue, two pieces of plexiglass (one inside, one outside) and a few clamps make up the first part of this repair.  Next up will be gluing in reinforcement cleats to help keep the crack from reopening.

1987 Carvin DC-150 :: strip & refin with a belly carve.

This quilted maple Carvin finish project went out the door last week.  It's natural finished was stripped, a belly carve sculpted into the back, refinished in a nitro sunburst and converted from active to passive.  More details coming in a blog post this Sunday.

EDIT: blog post here.
