Up on the roof :: Chubbuck Rogue 005 & Kalliope 001

Not technically "on the bench" ... I jumped up on the roof to get a few photos of the new builds. I caught the tail end of the sunset and wanted to try again, but didn't have the chance before the Kalliope (right) shipped out last month. The Rogue (on the left) is available to demo in person here at the ship. Please contact me if interested. I have been enjoying hearing a variety of players and styles come through and play it for me. Chubbuck Guitars Photoshoot :: 2015 Chubbuck Rogue 005

Last week the shop was a recording studio (see the growing video page), early this morning it's a photography studio. It takes quite a bit to put this simple setup together. The main light is a softbox with a reflector to fill in the other side. Photos from this shoot can be seen on the Rogue 005 page.

Frets :: Chubbuck Rogue 005

The bridge is glued on and the neck is ready for fretting. I picked up a Taylor "Fret Buck" reproduction by Stew-Mac (pictured below) to test out. The "buck" adds mass and supports the fingerboard extension when knocking in the frets over the body. In the past I have hand-held a steel block under this area with one hand and tapped in the frets with the other. Nothing wrong with either method. The fret buck is great, but it's a little intimidating installing such a heavy piece of cast iron on your newly finished guitar!

Note this will be one of the first builds to come out of the new shop. Very exciting!
