Hollowbody top carve :: Chubbuck Mousa 003

Above is my "carving shower" were I can better contain the mess of roughing out Mousa 003's hollowbody plates with an angle grinder fitted with a chainsaw wheel.  Below is the grinder setup along with where I stopped using the grinder before switching over to hand planes.

From here on out it will be hand planes and scrapers before flipping it over to scoop out the inside.

This rough carve ended up on Friday's vlog.  Check it out below and subscribe over on the Chubbuck Guitars Youtube channel.

Back rough out :: Chubbuck Mousa 003

Last week I got a good start to roughing out the back on Mousa 003.  Still a ways to go on the outside before flipping it over and working the inside. I'm always amazed with how much ends up on the floor.  Below are both the rough carve and initial cleanup videos from the vlog.

Chubbuck Mousa 003 :: flattening pie-cut maple

Chubbuck Mousa 003 :: flattening pie-cut maple.

Here I'm truing up the bottom of one half of the back plate to prep for joining.  In the past I have used a Safe T Planer in my drill press to take out the cup but opted to try hand planing for greater control.  A wider jointer would be ideal though.

1962 Guild M-20 [3.7 lbs] :: bridge reglue & top touch up

1962 Guild M-20 [3.7 lbs] :: bridge re-glue & top touch up

The combination of the Fishman magnetic sound hole pickup and drop DGDGBD, this guitar sounds incredible.  This player needed the bridge re-glue turned around quickly as he will be playing at a friend's wedding.

*Note the airplane in the photo.  My shop is south facing and right under Boston's Logan Airport flight path.  Sometimes when the sun is in the right position planes will eclipse the sun and almost blackout the shop.

Coincidentally the owner is stopping by tomorrow before he picks someone up at the airport.
