Harp guitar pickup install :: 2015 Carruth Harp Guitar "Thumbelina" [6.4 lbs]

Ken Bonfield stopped by the shop last night to have a K&K pickup installed in his new Alan Carruth harp guitar.  This is an incredible instrument.  The neck and upper harp are both detachable from the main body and fold into a small custom case for travel.

Video was shot of this pickup installation along with some minor neck angle tweaks and featured on the vlog.

Tweaking Nuts :: 2010 Alan Carruth 11 String Harp Guitar

This harp guitar belongs to Ken Bonfield and he brought it by the shop when we shot some video demos on the latest builds.  Ken is always experimenting with string gauges to find the best tone, tension and feel for his various alternate tunings.  He recently upped the gauge on a few of the subs (low-register bass harp strings) so the nuts were sized to improve the tone and tuning of the bigger strings.  This thing is a monster and Ken just so happens to have another Alan Carruth harp guitar coming soon.  I'm definitely looking forward to checking it out.

Ken Bonfield’s 1995 Alan Carruth OM #45 :: K&K Pure 12 String pickup install, Nashville high-strung tuning.

Ken and I have tried two other times to install a K&K Pure Mini in this guitar (his preferred pickup used in all of his Carruth’s).  Both times the output was very subdued and lacked the response compared to his other guitars.  Ken talked with K&K and they recommended trying the Pure 12 String (since this was tuned Nashville high strung - the high strings from a 12 string set).  Wow, what a difference!  Third times a charm.
