This sweet 27 year old Sadowsky J-bass has been through the shop before and this time in for some high / loose frets. Before leveling the frets, I glued and clamped down all of the frets to ensure they did not move. On rosewood fingerboards my glue of choice is thin superglue. This was a finished maple fingerboard so superglue can make a mess quickly. I opted for slightly thinned down yellow glue to penetrate down into the slot and easily clean up. Now the frets are ready to be leveled, crowned and polished. This player prefers electric guitar action (ie low) so precise fretwork is critical.
A brand spanking new Geddy Lee signature Jazz Bass in for some tweaks. This has Fender's "Channel Bound" fingerboard, which is where they inlay the fingerboard into the neck. It's pretty slick! My only issue would be replacing the nut on this one. The nut is also inlaid into the neck with the fingerboard binding capturing the ends and sealed under the finish. I'm not trying to be a pessimist, only analyzing the ease of a common repair requiring a complicated procedure. That being said, this a great J bass!
A Jazz bass in for a fairly standard setup with low action. One issue I discovered while changing strings was that the string ferrules in the back were super loose and fell out onto my bench. Not a good thing as they can be easy to loose if you are not paying attention. Similar to refitting peghead tuner bushings, I used some superglue snug them up. Note that I do NOT glue the ferrules in. The cured glue is used to add back material to the holes and give the ferrules something to bite into. I often opt to add glue to the tuner bushings but on these ferrules I opted to add glue to the holes in the body.
Tweak While You Wait :: 1989 Sadowsky Jazz Bass [8.8 lbs]
This lovely Sadowsky J bass has been in the shop before, notably for a neck re-carve and set up for flats. Recently this player decided to switch back to rounds, so we made some quick tweaks to the setup. Super low action!
