1987 Carvin DC-150 :: strip & refin with a belly carve

1987 Carvin DC-150 :: strip & refin with a belly carve.

This quilted maple Carvin finish project went out the door last week.  It's natural finished was stripped, a belly carve sculpted into the back, refinished in a nitro sunburst and converted from active to passive.  More details coming in a blog post this Sunday.

EDIT: blog post here.

This is being stripped and refinished with light transparent nitro burst.  The player decided that since it was stripped, we should add a comfort carve to the back where it contacts your ribs.  Here it is roughed out with my new Lie-Nielsen spokeshaves.

1987 Carvin DC-150 :: stripping the cutaways

Here I'm sanding off the poly finish in the cutaways by hand.  I didn't want to spread anymore of this poly dust around the shop than necessary, so I tied up this vacuum rig.  Works pretty well!
